Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes “offered” to Barcelona
Manchester United skipper and Portugal superstar, Bruno Fernandes could be on his way to Spain in the coming transfer window with Barcelona keen.
According to a report from Mirror, the 29-year-old’s representatives have “offered” the Blaugrana the opportunity to snap him up in the summer.
The Portugal international is believed to be confident about suiting the system of the new Barça manager, Hansi Flick. It could prove to be a huge blow for the Red Devils should the transfer go through.
The Man United captain was one of the few shining lights at Old Trafford during an otherwise disappointing season and played a key role in salvaging said season with his performances in the FA Cup final, which United won over Man City.
He is, however, believed to be itching for a move away for the sake of his career in recent weeks, though United are at the moment reluctant to let him go.
For now, Fernandes is gearing up for international duty in hopes of helping Portugal reclaim the continental crown at the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024.
For the right price, the move could work for everyone
Fernandes is undoubtedly an important asset for Man United regardless of who the manager will be going forward.
He shouldn’t, however, be considered completely indispensable. Turning 30 this September, his market value is only going to go down in the coming years. He either gets himself that one last big contract bump at United or elsewhere, and he has been looking to get more glory before his playing days are over.
United are going to put a huge price tag on Fernandes regardless of who comes for his signature. Barcelona are likely to try spend big despite their financial woes in the name of “statement signings” and to appease to their new manager.
And, while it may not be immediately apparent as to how successful Flick would be at Camp Nou, it is true that his is a system Fernandes would fit.
