Red Devils hold firm as Garnacho stays at United despite Argentina call-up

Manchester United starlet Alejandro Garnacho will not be present at the Olympics with Argentina, as the Red Devils are not allowing the 19-year-old to participate in the tournament due to their pre-season plans and the importance of his development within the club’s setup.

The Atletico Madrid academy graduate will not be going to France with Javier Mascherano’s Olympic team. Per Gastón Edul, the Manchester-based club is not giving its green light to allow Garnacho to participate in the Olympic games.

No clubs are obliged to release their players, as this counts as an U23 tournament. Argentina is taking a strong team to France, as the likes of Nicolás Otamendi and Julián Álvarez will be on the Argentina Olympic team. AFA are reportedly working to get Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez in the team.

Rising importance at Old Trafford

Garnacho has had an impressive campaign at Old Trafford; he has been one of the shining lights of a rather underwhelming season at United. He has been boasting his pressing intensities alongside his offensive menace every time he takes the field. His goal also inspired the club to a FA Cup triumph against Manchester City, showcasing his importance to the team. 

The Manchester Reds would be looking to ensure that he is in the best shape going into next season, rather than having tiring legs coming into the new season. This decision looks respectable and something that the player would not mind, given his growing importance at Old Trafford.
