Red Devils eye Milos Kerkez as Shaw’s backup after injury-hit season
Manchester United are looking to sign Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez this summer, per talkSPORT.
The United Reds have sustained a left-back muddle in the recently concluded season, with the first-choice in the position, Luke Shaw, serving on the sidelines for the majority of the campaign. The England international’s backup, Tyrell Malacia, has been missing for all season with an unknown injury that has kept him accompanying Shaw in the treatment room at Carrington.
Erik ten Hag did bring Sergio Reguilón in a temporary deal from Tottenham Hotspur last summer; however, the intellectuals at Old Trafford claimed Luke Shaw to be fit enough to carry the team in the left-back role for the second half of the season, which compounded United’s decision to terminate the loan deal for the Spaniard.
The Red Devils have now identified 20-year-old Milos Kerkez as a potential option to compete with Luke Shaw in the left-back role.
Will Manchester United pay the price for Bournemouth’s Kerkez?
The Hungarian graduated from AC Milan’s prestigious academy before moving to England from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 for an undisclosed fee when Bournemouth snapped his services. He made 33 appearances for the Cherries in the recently concluded campaign, as he played a key role in the club’s pursuit of a top-ten finish.
He has already shouldered the pressure to be the undisputed starter at AZ, as he helped the club finish in the top four in his first full season. He has also been called up by Marco Rossi to represent his country in the upcoming European Championships.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola had high praise for his left-back following the game against United. Speaking to the Daily Echo, he said:
“Milos has, I think, played a hell of a game. He has been really good defensively. He has been really good going forward.
Iraola added: “He has played more forward, and I think in these kinds of games where he finds more spaces, he can make his runs, carry the ball, and find it two against one outside.
“I think it suits him very well. Probably there are other games where we are more solid with Lloyd Kelly, but it’s a good problem for me because both are very good solutions.”

Bournemouth are expected to ask for a substantial fee to part ways with Milos Kerkez. It is to be seen if United does sanction such fees for his services.
