Would have liked to play for Celtic, admits Wayne Rooney
In his recent “quickfire” interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap, Wayne Rooney talked about, among other things, missed opportunities during his playing career.
He was asked by his former Man United teammate regarding a club he would have liked to play for, to which the new Plymouth Argyle boss said, “Celtic I’d say.”
Neville replied, “Celtic? Wow. Celtic fans you missed out there.”

The former England and United captain’s nascent managerial career has so far failed to hit the heights he reached very early on in his playing career.
After bracing the turbulent Derby Country waves, Rooney took a plunge across the pond at his former MLS club, DC United, with whom he parted ways after just a season and half.
He was then roped in by Birmingham City but got the sack after just 15 games as the Blues tumbled all the way down to League One.
Now at Plymouth Argyle, the onus is on Rooney to resuscitate his managerial reputation before his celebrity ceases to be enough to land him jobs in the upper tiers of English football.
Rooney could have done a job in Scotland
Younger than Cristiano Ronaldo, who in his own way continues firing on all available cylinders, Rooney could just as easily have continued playing in the upper levels of professional football should he chose to.
However, given he became a regular at senior level before he turned 18, it is understandable how after all the minutes he played and the trophies he collected, Rooney saw no point continue playing late into his 30s; to each their own, after all.

Still, Rooney shouldn’t worry about never making it to Celtic just yet, for they may very well offer him their managerial seat if he can prove himself competent enough in the years to come.
