Man United likely to be given the green light to play in UEFA Europa League alongside Nice
According to Mirror journalist John Cross, as per GiveMeSport, Manchester United should have little problem convincing UEFA to allow them to play Europa League football next season alongside their French sister club, Nice.
The French club qualified for the UEL by finishing fifth in the Ligue 1 table, which hands them the advantage over United, who only clinched European football on the last day of their season by beating Man City in the FA Cup final.
The INEOS ownership of the two clubs have until Monday to make their case. In the unlikely scenario in which UEFA are not convinced by INEOS, United would be relegated to the Europa Conference League for next season.
United getting a hit would be unprecedented
Multi-club ownership structures have been existing in modern-day football for a while now, and they are only getting more and more sophisticated when it comes to complying with UEFA’s rules. Red Bull’s Salzburg and Leipzig clubs are the best, most famous example of this.
INEOS’ ownership of United is categorised as “minor”, while they are the major owners of Nice, so this will be the key point presented to UEFA by Monday in the case for United to be allowed to play in the UEL next season.
