Manchester United catch a stray from Jurgen Klopp who criticized their treatment of a £80m star
Jurgen Klopp took a sly dig at Manchester United during his farewell event where he shed light on his time with Liverpool. The German manager explained how he was happy with what he achieved keeping his resources in mind.
Unlike other managers of top-flight clubs, Klopp never had a huge budget to spend at the helm of the Reds. He also cited an example from the Red Devils as he went on to make his point. Let’s have a look. (h/t ESPN)
“If the whole world loses trust and faith in the player, the manager has to be the one behind the player,”
“I cannot just buy into that, ‘he’s useless,’ like other clubs did by the way, buying a player for £80 million ($102m) and then sending him out on loan.”
Klopp seemed somewhat baffled that a club could spend so much money on a player just to treat him like Manchester United treated Jadon Sancho. The 24-year-old spent four months on the sidelines following a public falling out with Erik ten Hag.
While his punishment may have been harsh, the English winger has never once shown any kind of remorse over his actions. To this day, Sancho has yet to acknowledge it was wrong of him to call the Dutchman a liar in public.
While Klopp may disagree with what happened to the 24-year-old, it can be said that Sancho got what was coming to him. You can’t call out your manager in public and expect everything to go back to normal.
However, whatever happened seems to have ended up working out in his favor. Ever since he went back to Borussia Dortmund on loan, Sancho has come back to life and started to look more and more like his former self by the minute.
