Chelsea could move in for Benjamin Šeško during busy summer, says Fabrizio Romano
In his latest Daily Briefing newsletter entry, football journalist Fabrizio Romano discussed, among other things, Chelsea’s plans going into the summer, also linking Benjamin Šeško with the club.
The reputed Italian reporter confirmed that Chelsea would be looking to bolster their frontline, having had this to say about the Blues:
“So, that will be ‘here we go’ soon [regarding Enzo Maresca becoming the new Chelsea coach] and then it will continue to be a busy summer at Chelsea. It won’t be completely crazy but they will try to make smart things happen, including a new goalkeeper and I expect them to try for at least one new centre-back, but it could be two. I also expect Chelsea to be busy with the striker position, and I mentioned many times Benjamin Sesko, who is highly rated at Chelsea but also by others like Arsenal and Manchester United.”
With Romano confirming Chelsea and Arsenal’s interest in Šeško, things become even more difficult for his other Premier League suitors, Man United.
The 20-year-old was being courted by the Red Devils even during his RB Salzburg days before he decided to move to RB Leipzig, where his performances in one season have gone on to attract even more big names for his signature.
Šeško is set to remain in Germany next month as he gears up for the 2024 Euros, having being named in Slovenia’s squad for the tournament.
Šeško not the kind of player United should pursue
Šeško would have made sense for United two seasons ago, when he was at Salzburg. Going for him now does not make sense.
United have already filled their young-striker quota by roping in Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta for good money. It is only towards the back end of this season that the Dane started showing his potential; it would be unwise of United to upset the apple cart by sending unnecessary competition for the sole striker spot his way with another young player.

If United are at all considering moving for a striker this summer, they should be going after a more experienced operator who can hit the ground running in no time and take some pressure off Højlund.
