"Everything is possible"- Raphael Varane gives verdict on his future after Manchester United exit

Have not decided my next club yet, says Raphaël Varane

Raphaël Varane recently spoke about his future after playing his last competitive game for Man United.

The former France international announced earlier this month that he would leave the club at the end of his third season at Old Trafford.

In his last outing as a Man United player, the 31-year-old partnered Lisandro Martínez at the back as United upstaged Man City at Wembley Stadium to win the FA Cup final 2-1.

Speaking to beIN Sports after the game, Varane had this to say about his future:

“I don’t know [where I will go]. I’ll take time to think.

“I just wanted to come back in time for the final. A return to France? Everything is possible.

“I’m at the end of my contract. It’s the first time that has happened in my career so I’ll take the time to really think.”

In the past, Varane has spoken about his desire to return to his boyhood club, Lens, before hanging up his boots.

Varane’s Lens return may have to wait

In his final-ever game for Man United, Varane demonstrated that he still has enough left in the tank to deliver at—or at least near—the top level.

That said, with him having won the World Cup and a fair few Champions Leagues, it is fair to say that he has nothing left to prove in his playing career.

We have recently seen his former Real Madrid teammate Toni Kroos call time on his career while being at the top; it wouldn’t be surprising if Varane were to take a leaf out of his book.

Sure, he has enough talent to earn himself a big move in Europe or a lucrative contract out in Saudi Arabia for the next two to three years, which current reports suggest is the more likely outcome.

Injuries permitting, though, Varane will be back at Lens at some point, even if it’s not next season.
