Pep Guardiola had some high praise for a Manchester United star after he helped his team lift the FA Cup.
It was a fairy tale ending for Manchester United as they beat Pep Guardiola and his Man City side to lift the FA Cup last night. No one believed the Red Devils have what it takes to take on the Blues, one of the strongest teams in the world right now.
After the kind of season Manchester United have had, you can’t blame the critics for thinking they would not be able to overcome Pep Guardiola and his team. However, the Old Trafford squad emerged victorious.
Pep had high praise for one of Erik ten Hag’s players after the game. Guardiola believes that Lisandro Martinez ‘made the difference’ in the FA Cup final. Let’s have a look at what he had to say about the Argentine defender. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
“Lisandro Martinez is top five centre-backs in the world,”
“He made the difference on this game by playing passes through our defence.”
Martinez had suffered a ton of injuries this season and many of them were a first for him. The Argentine had never picked up a foot, calf, or knee injury, but this season he picked up all three.
Due to his extended absence, the media started to doubt Martinez’s ability. However, the difference he made in the game against Man City was clear to see, it is safe to say that the Argentine is easily one of the best defenders in the world.
If it wasn’t for Martinez shutting out Erling Haaland, the game might’ve been very different for the Red Devils. They’ll be happy to know the Argentine is fit and raring to go.
