Manchester United star Harry Maguire set to miss out on FA Cup final, shares story on Instagram
Man United centre-back Harry Maguire is confirmed to miss out on playing in the upcoming FA Cup final.
The former United captain sustained a muscle injury towards the end of last month and was always in a race against time to make the final; now it’s confirmed categorically that he won’t.
Maguire’s absence comes as a huge blow to Man United, who have already struggled with injuries across the pitch, but most importantly at the back, all season long.
The 31-year-old put out a story on Instagram to personally acknowledge missing out on Saturday’s game and pledge his support to his teammates. He has made just 31 club appearances this season across all competitions.

The 2024 FA Cup final is a rematch of last year’s event, when Man City came out 2-1 victorious on their way to securing a historic treble.
The final is also Man United’s last chance to secure European football for next season.
Maguire miss a massive hit, but not a surprising one
Ever since he was side-lined, Maguire was unlikely to make the squad for the FA Cup final, so it can be expected that Ten Hag would have been preparing for the game assuming him to be absent at the back.

That said, the fact that Maguire’s absence is being considered a blow at all and not something to feel relieved by is testament to how far his reputation has come since last season, when he was being bashed left, right, and centre.

Maguire will now be gearing towards getting himself ready to put on the England shirt and occupy the centre-back role Gareth Southgate has so far reserved for him. He will also want to get some minutes during the pre-Euros friendlies to make sure he isn’t left out altogether.
