Ian Wright, Roy Keane, and Jamie Carragher predict Man City win over Man United in FA Cup final
In the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast, Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Roy Keane, and Jamie Carragher talked about, among other things, the upcoming FA Cup final.
Man United face Man City this Saturday in what is last year’s rematch of the same tie.
When it came to predictions, not one of the four dared to predict an out-and-out United win. While Neville predicted United to lift the trophy after winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw, the other three backed City to win comfortably.
“I’m going to go 1-1, United to win on penalties.”
Neville’s prediction, before hiding his face inside his T-shirt in embarrassed laughter
“You’ve got absolutely no chance of winning this game.”
Carragher, predicting a 2-0 City win
“2 or 3-1 City, I hope I’m proved wrong.”
Roy Keane
Wright, meanwhile, predicted a 3-1 City win. All the above quotes are presented by the Manchester Evening News.
The lack of belief in United’s ability to do anything on the Wembley pitch stems from the difference in performances the two sides have shown all season. City have just secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title, while United have just registered their worst-ever league finish in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, having finished eighth in the table.
The FA Cup final is also United’s last chance to earn European football for next season.
Hope’s not in abundance
One cannot blame anyone from fans to pundits for not backing United to win; they are all going off of what they have seen for a year.
United failed to beat City last season when the two sides finished merely 14 points apart in the league compared to this season’s difference of 31.
Still, it’s a one-off game, and miracles do happen. City would know better than others, having lost the FA Cup to a Championship-bound Wigan Athletic side 11 years ago.

They happen rarely against Pep Guardiola’s City, however. Especially in domestic football. The onus is now on Erik ten Hag and Co to prove everyone wrong come Saturday.
