No one at Man United believe they can win the FA Cup final, says Jamie Carragher
Jamie Carragher came out with a bold statement regarding Man United in the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast.
Speaking about the upcoming FA Cup final game between Man United and Man City, the former Liverpool and England defender had this to say:
“I don’t think anybody from Manchester United, whether the manager, the players, or the fans, is going to that game [FA Cup final] believing that they can win.”
The upcoming FA Cup final tie is a repeat of last year’s when Man City beat Man United on their way towards securing a historic treble.
City are coming into this game full of confidence after a resurging run in the Premier League to secure their fourth consecutive league title.
United, on the other hand, have gained some semblance of form in their last two league games thanks to victories over Newcastle and Brighton to hit the 60-point mark in the league. Despite this, their eighth-place finish is the lowest the team have achieved in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
The FA Cup final is also United’s last chance to secure European football for next season.
Carragher’s not far from the truth
Jamie Carragher is not entirely wrong, however much a United fan may want him to be.
Confidence in Erik ten Hag’s side has never been lower than it is now, despite the recent two victories. The game on Saturday is very much a “David against Goliath” affair.
Still, anything can happen, and not that the United players should be needing any fuel to charge up for a Manchester Derby, but if they do, Carragher’s clip saying they all lack belief may do the trick.
