Steve Bruce says he was ‘worried’ about Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire before signing him for Hull City
Harry Maguire has become one of Manchester United’s most important players ever since his arrival in 2019. The 31-year-old has been one of their most criticized players and their most beloved players during his time at Old Trafford.
Prior to his arrival, the English defender was playing a key role for Leicester City. However, Maguire didn’t really burst onto the scene before he got his chance at Hull City but that almost never came to be.
Former Red Devil Steve Bruce has revealed that he was ‘worried’ about Maguire’s pace before he decided to give him a shot with Hull City. Let’s have a look at what else he had to say about the 31-year-old defender. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
“My chief scout at the time, Stan Ternant, said to me: ‘I’ve just seen an interesting player play for Sheffield United. This kid is good in both boxes. He told me he’s 21, he’s played 150 times for Sheffield United, he’s the captain, he won Player of the Year three years on the spin”
Bruce added that at first glance, he was worried about Maguire’s mobility, his lack of pace was alarming. However, despite his slow legs, the former Red Devil brought him over to Hull City.
Now, Maguire has become one of Manchester United’s most important players. He has filled crucial gaps in Erik ten Hag’s defensive line which has been struggling with an abnormal amount of injuries this season.
He’s one of the most experienced members of the squad and even though he could leave this summer, Maguire will always be appreciated by the Old Trafford crowd.
