Manchester United get huge boost as summer target is now ‘open’ to leaving Premier League side
As reported by The Standard (h/t Manchester Evening News), Premier League defender, Jarrad Branthwaite is open to leaving Everton amid interest from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
The 21-year-old has been in fine form all season and has been a key part of Sean Dyche’s lineup. If it wasn’t for him The Toffees might not have been able to turn their fortunes around and avoid relegation.
However, Branthwaite is growing quickly and his form has put a lot of top-flight clubs on notice. Now even though Everton would prefer to retain the 21-year-old their financial situation might not let them.
The team has already endured point deductions due to their breach of FFP laws. To make sure they don’t face more penalties, Everton could be forced to sell Branthwaite or Amadou Onana this summer.
The situation could change if 777 Partners’ takeover goes through, but there is a lot of uncertainty on that front. So, the timing is perfect for Man United to swoop in and steal the 21-year-old away from Everton.
However, Branthwaite will not come cheap. While Transfermarkt values the player at around €30m, the Toffees will be looking for an offer in the range of €80m. United could try and pressure them with their financial situation but if that doesn’t work the team just might have to break the bank.
