Manchester United will now have to battle Arsenal for the signature of La Liga target
As reported by Spanish outlet Fichasjes, Arsenal and Manchester United will both be after the signature of Frenkie De Jong. A deal could be struck during the summer depending on how the situation develops.
Barcelona are in desperate need of funds to facilitate transfers this summer. The Catalan side hopes to go back to the 1:1 rule to help them bring in some much-needed reinforcements during the summer.
Frenkie De Jong is one player who is constantly at risk of being sold as talks would suggest. However, Xavi Hernandez will be continuing at Barcelona after taking back his decision to step down. He considers the Dutch international a key player.
Manchester United and Arsenal will likely have a tough time signing the player. However, the Red Devils will not be playing in European competitions and the Gunners will, so Old Trafford might lose out on their long-term midfield target.
De Jong is a world-class midfielder who influences the game very well. He’s an excellent playmaker and excels at retaining possession, he could do wonders for Manchester United’s middle line.
But they’re currently on the backfoot and it would take a miracle from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team to pull this off. Signing De Jong would provide a massive boon to the team and would be an excellent way to kick off their rebuild.
