Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and Kobbie Mainoo deemed indispensable, escape the summer clear-out plan at Manchester United
Manchester United have deemed Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo untouchable amid potential squad cleanup in the summer. United’s footballing operations are now under the control of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is planning to make drastic changes at the club.
The Red Devils have suffered a very poor season under Erik ten Hag, struggling to form good consistency and cohesiveness. They crashed during the Champions League group stage, failing to make it to the knockout stages or the Europa League.
Man United also crashed out of the Carabao Cup earlier in the season while losing ground in the Premier League. They are currently sixth in the Premier League table, failing to achieve the minimum expectation of reaching the top four.
Without the Champions League football to offer, the Red Devils face the daunting task of attracting top talents to sign. They cannot resort to old tactics of paying big wages and price tags to established players, receiving less in return.
Fichajes reported that Hojlund, Garnacho and Mainoo are the only untouchable talents in the upcoming transfer market for Man United. That means even the established players like captain Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Harry Maguire are available for sale.
The latter should be surprising given that Maguire has in fact stepped up of late. It, however, represents the winds of change at Old Trafford that the club are keen to revamp the squad and build a winning roster.
The fanbase, continuously questioning the conviction and hunger of many top players, also demands turnover within the team. However, the sudden massive transition could backfire as Man United cannot afford multiple seasons out of the Champions League competition.
Hojlund, Garnacho and Mainoo have featured regularly for the starting eleven this season, making a positive impact amid the dreadful season. While Mainoo and Garnacho have been a constant requirement for the Red Devils, Hojlund has plenty of room for improvement.
