Bruno Fernandes wishes Juan Mata a happy birthday with a GIF
Bruno Fernandes was one of the many football stars who wished Juan Mata a happy birthday on Sunday.
The former Spain international, now 36, posted an image on Instagram thanking his well-wishers.
Fernandes, his teammate at Man United between 2020 and 2022, commented on the post with a GIF of the two celebrating a goal together.
Mata was already a spent force by the time the Portugal international arrived at Old Trafford, leading to very few moments when the two shared the pitch while representing the Red Devils.
Mata is currently a free agent and last played club football for Vissel Kobe out in Japan.
Mata — Man United’s first post-Sir Alex casualty
Juan Mata was one of highest-rated attacking midfielders when he joined Man United in January 2014, becoming only the second big-name signing of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era at United after Marouane Fellaini.
Little did we know at the time about the quagmire into which United were to get stuck in, and how they would take down with them many a talent in years to come. Mata was the first one to suffer this fate.
Had he stayed at Chelsea or moved anywhere but United, Mata would likely have gone on to have a much more memorable and stellar career, but United’s spectacular implosion saw him struggle as a series of mis-positionings, managerial upheavals, and injuries saw the Spaniard do little more than a few moments of brilliance sprinkled across an eight-year period.
