Lisandro Martínez, Luke Shaw, and Anthony Martial could feature before season’s end, says Erik ten Hag
Erik ten Hag provided some key injury updates during his press conference ahead of Man United’s Saturday afternoon game against Burnley.
The Dutchman confirmed that Mason Mount was fit enough to make the squad set to host the Clarets at Old Trafford during the weekend.
He also provided updates for long-time absentees Lisandro Martínez, Luke Shaw, and Anthony Martial, believing they could return to playing before the season’s end.
“So same squad but apart from Mason Mount. He will return into the squad. Yes, I think we will see them [Shaw, Martinez, and Martial] all in the season.
“They all returned onto the pitch. Next week, they have to make the step into team training and they can be available for the last weeks. They progress well.”

A chance to make a lasting impression
Martínez has had a season to forget through no fault of his own. He’ll want to put up some strong performances towards the end of the season and see if he can wriggle his way into the starting XI for the FA Cup final game against Man City.
In the short term, Luke Shaw needs to demonstrate he is fit enough to be able to operate on the pitch when he returns, though one hopes his return is not accelerated. In the long term, both he and United have a call to make in terms of where they go from here because it is evident by this point that Shaw is likely to deal with injuries every so often for the rest of his career.

As for Martial, the writing has been on the wall for a while. He is leaving Old Trafford at the end of this season and needs to find a new club to prove himself. Despite reported interest from Inter Milan, the Frenchman would want to impress the onlookers at the eleventh hour in an attempt to attract more suitors and potentially earn himself a hefty contract.
