“I’m completely relaxed” says Manchester United target, Gareth Southgate
Manchester United have often been linked to England manager, Gareth Southgate this summer. However, the English manager could not be bothered by all the talk surrounding his future at the moment.
Southgate is fully focused on the 2024 EUROs and because of that he has refrained from mulling over his future in an effort to eliminate distractions. The 53-year-old manager will be out of contract in December.
As his stints come to a close Southgate needs results now more than ever. He has been able to maintain a top ranking in international football these past few years. However, he is yet to win a trophy for England. So his full focus is on the EUROs this summer. Let’s have a look at what he had to say about his future. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
“I’m completely relaxed about that and I have no idea where we’ll be in the middle of July, other than I hope it’s Trafalgar Square and let’s get the party on!”
Regardless of where he ends up next year, Southgate wants to arrive with a trophy. Surely leading England through the EUROs will increase his stock with several clubs. He could even use it as leverage to get a bigger contract.
Southgate has also stated that his England team needs a clear run in the 2024 EUROs. To do so, they will have to rid the environment of all the distractions and Gareth’s uncertain future would surely be a big one.
For the time being, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be getting any concrete information out of Southgate on the topic of his future.
