Manchester United are seriously considering Girona manager Michel as one of the six top candidates to replace Erik ten Hag
Girona manager Michel, one of the six candidates earmarked by the club, could replace Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. Girona are currently third in the La Liga table and they have enjoyed a good attacking football philosophy under Michel.
The Spanish club are seven points ahead of Atletico Madrid and just two points behind second-place Barcelona in the table. Girona have scored the second highest goals in the La Liga this season with 67 goals in 32 games.
Their steep rise in the La Liga table under Michel has attracted interest from top clubs planning a managerial change. The 48-year-old joined the Spanish club in the summer of 2021, achieving promotion with them in his first season.
The Spaniard has deployed a variety of tactics including a low block build-up in a 4-3-3 formation according to the squad available. This season, he has used the 4-2-3-1 formation effectively, attempting to outnumber opponents in the attacking phases of the game.
On possession, Girona plays a high backline and presses the opponents while becoming compact to eliminate spaces. His wide players play a crucial role in stretching the play and opening spaces in the middle to exploit.
Out of possession, Girona has favoured a mid-block this season, narrowing the spaces and forcing opponents to go wide. Michel’s team have conceded which is higher than many teams that are below them in the league table. However, given the quality of players he possesses, the situation could be different for a big team under his tactics.
Fichajes reported that Michel is one of the six candidates who are under serious consideration to replace Ten Hag. The other five candidates are Gareth Southgate, Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerbi, Thiago Motta and Thomas Tuchel.

Ten Hag has notched up two victories in the last two games but the wins were very unconvincing. Coventry enjoyed a special comeback in the FA Cup semi-final after going 3-0 down and almost achieved a 4-3 victory.
The Red Devils faced issues against the bottom-most Premier League team Sheffield United at Old Trafford yesterday. They won the game 4-2 but the Blades managed to take the lead twice in the game. The embarrassing season is reaching its end and the future of Ten Hag remains uncertain despite the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City.
