Scott McTominay conveys gratitude to Man United fans after FA Cup semi-final win
Scott McTominay was quick to thank Man United fans after his side’s FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City on Sunday.
The Red Devils decided to take the hard way home having started on the easy path as they let the Championship side return from 3-0 down to take the proceedings into extra time. A late disallowed goal then stopped the Coventry party before United snatched the game in penalties.
The Scotland international had a decent personal outing on the Wembley pitch and even opened United’s account with his 23rd-minute strike. He took to Instagram after the game to leave a succinct message for the Old Trafford faithful.

The 27-year-old will also be in contention to make the squad for United’s next game, with Erik ten Hag‘s men set to host Sheffield United on Wednesday night.
McTominay always useful when deployed right
Having entered the senior United setup under José Mourinho, and thanks to the combination of his limited ability on the ball and his 6’4″ build, Scott McTominay has been mis-profiled for most of his senior career.
Only now are coaches able to realise that McTominay’s true potential lies in defence-to-attack transitions between the lines, that too further up the pitch. He may not be the best ball carrier, but he has the positional discipline to play alongside a central striker, make delayed runs from the back and take a decent shot at goal, as has been demonstrated by his recent performances up the pitch.

By virtue of his temperament, McTominay is the kind of player every good team at the top need in the dressing room, if not out on the pitch week in, week out. One only hopes he gets to realise this role in the coming seasons, should he and his coach want him to continue at Old Trafford, that is.
