José María Giménez nears Atlético Madrid exit amid interest from big European clubs
According to Fichajes, José María Giménez is likely to leave Atlético Madrid in the summer.
The 29-year-old centre-back has been rated highly ever since he arrived in Europe back in 2013, receiving plaudits while playing for an Atleti side famous for their dogged defence.
Barcelona, Man United, Chelsea, and Inter Milan are closely monitoring the situation of the Uruguay international.
Given the interest, with his current contract running until June 2028, Giménez will not come cheap for any club should a bidding war ensue, though Atleti would prefer moving him on owing to injury concerns.
Giménez has struggled with injuries all across the board throughout his time at the Cívitas Metropolitano, having missed a total of 144 games for both club and country in the last 11 years.
However, his talent should see clubs willing to take an interest in acquiring his services if Atleti put him on the market this summer.
A headache Man United do not want
Giménez is 29 years old with a decade’s worth of injury record behind him.
For all the talent he possesses, the one thing United need from their players, especially new acquisitions, is consistent availability.

Of course, freak injuries can happen all the time, but when you have a record in front of you as exhaustive as Giménez’s injuries over the years, it’s hard to make a case for United going after him under any circumstances.
