Pundit asks PL clubs to offer escape route to Manchester United star, Raphael Varane
Raphael Varane has struggled during his time with Manchester United. As someone who has won almost everything there is to win in football, the 30-year-old’s skills and game have surely taken a step back since his days with Real Madrid.
So, it doesn’t make sense that the Frenchman is one of the highest-paid players on the Old Trafford roster. This is why he was not offered an extension and the club is expected to move on from Varane this summer.
Pundit, Glen Johnson has been making calls and urging Premier League clubs to offer an escape route to the World Cup winner. He believes Chelsea would be a good destination for the former Madrid star. Let’s have a look. (h/t Mirror)
“Good players like that don’t come around often and they certainly come around less often on a free transfer,”
“I know he’s not the Varane he was three or four years ago but he’s still a bloody good player.”
Johnson went on to add that Varane would fit right into the Chelsea locker room. The Blues have a very young team and figure like the Frenchman who has achieved almost everything will bring a lot to the team.
He cited the example of Thiago Silva who was also a great person to have in the locker room. Varane’s injuries will be an issue but Johnson believes as long as they’re getting him on a free transfer, it’ll be a good deal even if the Frenchman only plays 40% of the games.
The former Chelsea player also says players like Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford would make excellent additions to the Blues. However, their price tag will likely be out of reach for the Stamford Bridge officials.
While talk suggests that Varane could return to Real Madrid this summer, it’ll be interesting to see him stick around in the Premier League.

Man United might not be open to the idea of Varane joining Chelsea and could offer the player a new contract at the very last minute. However, this is all just speculation and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
