Manchester United could use Joe Wilcox for the signing of £75m-rated Premier League defender
As reported by Metro, Manchester United are hoping to use the influence of Joe Wilcox to land a deal for £75m-rated Premier League defender, Jarrad Branthwaite. The 21-year-old has made 34 appearances this season.
The U-21 English defender has been in fine form all season long. Man United have been long term admirers and all signs currently suggest that the Red Devils will be pouncing on any oppurtunity to sign Branthwaite.
Erik ten Hag’s defensive line leaves a lot to be desired. With players like Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans possibly on their way out, some reinforcements are definitely the need of the hour.
Manchester United are expected to appoint Joe Wilock as their technical director this season. Dan Ashworth is also expected to follow and will be taking over the role of sporting director. The team knows that Wilcox is close with Branthwaite’s agent.
So, they are expected to try and use his influence to work out a deal for the 21-year-old. However, Branthwaite will not come cheap. It is being reported that Everton will want somewhere in the region of £75m.
However, the Red Devils will probably look to drag that price down to the region of £50m. How well Everton will react to that is still unknown. It is very possible that the Toffees might not go for a lower bid.
