‘Concrete talks’ held by Manchester United over €40m Bundesliga defender
As reported by Caught Offside, Manchester United have already held ‘concrete talks’ for €40m Bundesliga defender, Jeremie Frimpong. The 23-year-old has been pivotal for Xabi Alonso’s side this season.
The goal-crazy defender has made a total of 38 appearances recording 12 goals and 11 assists for Bayer Leverkusen. He has also been involved in a few late winners and is part of the reason the team is still unbeaten.
Man United have been in the habit of signing Dutch players ever since Erik ten Hag took the helm. Now, Jeremie Frimpong could be the latest talent that the Dutchman adds to his squad. However, some cuts will have to be made.
The Red Devils have Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw playing as fullbacks. To sign the 23-year-old defender the team will likely have to move one of the players mentioned above.
Moreover, the team might have to guarantee Frimpong that he will get to play regular first team football. The 23-year-old is having the time of his life under Xabi Alonso, so Manchester United will have to make it worth his while.
Moreover, there is the question of his fees. Frimpong has a €40m release clause, so United must strike and work out a deal while they can still activate that. If Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team take too much time Frimpong’s value and his release clause have a very real chance of skyrocketing.
