Pundit tells Manchester United that only two of their stars have had ‘really good seasons’
Erik ten Hag’s second season at the helm has been a disaster for Manchester United. The team is currently looking like it will not be a part of the UCL next season and might not even end up making the top five.
Aston Villa sit at fourth with an 11-point lead. Tottenham Hotspur are comfortable in fifth with a nine-point lead over the Red Devils, though they have a game in hand. Jeff Stelling says only two of the team’s stars have shown up this season. Let’s have a look at his picks.
“If I were to say to you ‘Which Man United players have had good seasons this season?’, it wouldn’t be a long list. Dalot has had a really good season. I think Garnacho, who was subbed the other night, has been their main threat.”
The two have surely been instrumental to what little success the Red Devils have stumbled upon this season. 19-year-old Garnacho has made 39 appearances recording a total of seven goals and four assists.
His emergence in the Premier League is a big reason behind United being in sixth place despite their dismal performance. Diogo Dalot on the other hand has also made 39 appearances, recording a total of two goals and five assists.
Now at first glance, Dalot looks like a run-of-the-mill left back. However, if the Manchester United forwards weren’t so wasteful with their chances, he’d have more assists. Apart from being an excellent player on offence, 25-year-old Dalot has also been one of the team’s best defenders.
Having only these two players putting up decent performances is not normal for a club as big as the Red Devils. Something has clearly gone very wrong with the other stars and it’s up to Erik ten Hag to figure their issues out.
