‘Wanted it more’ says Erik ten Hag when talking about Manchester United’s draw against Brentford

Manchester United had no answer for the relentless attack of Brentford last night. In fact, the team was lucky that they didn’t get blown out and somehow managed to bring the game to a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after the game United manager, Erik ten Hag was disappointed with the performance of his team. Let’s have a look at what the Dutchman had to say about his opponents from Brentford. (h/t Manchester United)

“Brentford wanted it more during the whole course of the game but we have to take it over the whole game, take it [beyond] the time.”

Ten Hag also added that his team’s energy levels weren’t what he expected and blamed the international break. It has to be said that Manchester United just didn’t play with enough tenacity and grit to outright beat Brentford.

However, this draw also falls on the shoulders of Erik ten Hag. He knows what is at stake and how important every point is for the Old Trafford squad. The Dutchman should have done a better job of firing his men up before the game.

Another flaw we saw Brentford exploit time and time again was the gap in Manchester United’s defence. Erik ten Hag’s defenders looked clueless at times which allowed the Bees to get off 31 shots.

The fans expected Manchester United to play good football after the international break. While they did manage to draw against Brentford it definitely wasn’t because of ‘good football’. On the plus side, Mason Mount has finally scored his first goal for the Old Trafford squad.
