National manager’s pep talk got him smiling again says Manchester United star
Manchester United and Erik ten Hag owe a lot of their wins this season to Scott McTominay. The Scottish midfielder has shown up when it matters most. His late goals as a substitute this season are part of why the Red Devils are still contending for a top-four spot.
In 34 appearances across all competitions, McTominay has recorded nine goals and three assists for Man United. The 27-year-old has also played a key role for his national team, but he wasn’t always happy with his international duties.
There was a bit of sulking and unhappiness being shown by McTominay which was all rectified thanks to a pep talk by manager, Steve Clarke. Let’s have a closer look at what he had to say. (h/t The Daily Mail)
“He just said he wanted to see the kid who was happy whenever he first came on the scene and was playing every week. He saw a boy who was smiling all the time.
“I thought, ‘Maybe he’s right’. I spoke to my mum, my dad, my girlfriend at the time and they all pretty much said the same thing.”
McTominay added that being happy on the pitch has had a big impact on his performance. He mentioned that his family and girlfriend are always looking out for his mental and only want the best for him.
Scott says that this is important for all the young players in the world. He believes that a good support system is crucial for their growth, and McTominay has been very lucky in that department.
Scott says it is important to not sulk under pressure and continue to prove yourself. This is clearly something he lives by, since the 27-year-old seems to always prove a point with his play.
