Manchester United worst nightmare is becoming reality as star Alejandro Garnacho is ready to break hearts
Manchester United could face a battle to keep star Alejandro Garnacho. The star winger reportedly dreams of a move to Real Madrid amid his standout first season as a regular starter. This is a nightmare for United, as they have already gone through a similar situation with Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Old Trafford 15 years ago.
The Red Devils signed him as a 16-year-old in October 2020, enticing him away from Atletico Madrid for a compensation sum of only £100,000. The deal being amazing, as academy director Nick Cox had to deal with obstacles during the COVID-19 outbreak, signing the agreement via video chat from his spare bedroom.
Garnacho quickly impressed Manchester United’s younger divisions, contributing significantly to the FA Younger Cup victory in 2022 before becoming a constant fixture in the senior squad later that year. Since then, Garnacho has been in outstanding form.
Garnacho has forced his way into the forefront of Erik ten Hag’s plans, starting his 25th consecutive game in Sunday’s FA Cup victory over Liverpool. He impressed with his endurance in a 120-minute exhibition of agility, assisting Amad Diallo‘s amazing last-gasp winning goal.
Real Madrid and Garnacho connections
Garnacho’s rise has coincided with an acceptance that the Madrid-born starlet will be keen to return at some point in his career. Alejandro Garnacho has caught Real Madrid supremo Florentino Perez’s eye thanks to a series of excellent performances for Manchester United in the ongoing season.
Garnacho has been in red-hot form, scoring seven goals and registering four assists to form an amazing partnership with summer recruit Rasmus Hojlund. Perez wants to hold a meeting with Garnacho to convince him to leave Old Trafford, as he is coming to the UK next month to face Manchester City.
Connections to Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo broke Manchester United fans’ hearts in 2009 when he decided to leave the club to chase a dream move to the Santiago Bernabeu. Ronaldo became the world’s most expensive footballer after his £80 million switch.
He had intended to depart the previous summer after assisting Sir Alex Ferguson in winning the Champions League, but was persuaded to stay for one more season, during which he won his third Premier League title in a row.

After the departure of Ronaldo, there is a void that has not yet been completely filled but United and the club fear the same happening to them again. The Red Devils would definitely do everything possible to keep the star forward Garnacho, as they cannot afford one of the brightest players leaving the club.
