Manchester United should take inspiration from Sir Alex Ferguson suggests Barcelona Legend
Manchester United have found themselves in tough situations season after season since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. The folks at Old Trafford seem to have lost their way ever since the legendary manager left the fold.
Amidst the chaos Barcelona legend and former Manchester United star, Gerard Pique has some sound advice for the team. Let’s have a look at the suggestion made by Pique to help United find glory again. (h/t Sky Sports)
“I would say they need to trust more in the people coming through from the academy.”
“We saw Sir Alex Ferguson show this with the Class of ’92 and they have to trust in the next generation in the same way.”
Why have Manchester United failed to find success after Sir Alex?
Well as said by Pique, the team has been spending a lot of money over the past few seasons. However, their strategy to buy ‘big’ players which essentially translated to buying success hasn’t been successful.
In fact, for all the money that the team has spent, their best players this season have been Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Both players come from the Manchester United Academy and have quickly solidified their spot in the starting lineup.
Pique also cited Barcelona’s example. When the going gets tough the Catalan club looks towards La Masia. We’ve seen exceptional talents like Pau Cubarsi, Pedri, Gavi, and Lamine Yamal breakthrough in recent years.
In a couple of years, Barcelona will be back to winning if they focus on the nourishment of their young talent. Manchester United could surely learn a thing or two from the Spanish side.

They’ve spent a ton of money, now it’s high time that the Red Devils focus on developing their young talents. Hopefully, we will get to see more academy players appear for the first team next season.
