Manchester United now have a better chance of signing a £60m-rated midfielder as Barcelona drops their pursuit.
As reported by Spanish publication SPORT (h/t Manchester Evening News), Barcelona have dropped out of the race to sign £60m-rated midfielder, Amadou Onana which clears the way for Manchester United. The Red Devils have been a long-time admirer of the player.
The 22-year-old has made 29 appearances for Everton this season recording three goals and one assist. His control over the midfield and his excellent defensive capabilities have helped Onana garner interest from multiple top-flight clubs.
However, a lot of talks suggest that the Red Devils are the favourites to sign the Belgian midfielder. Amadou Onana played the full 90 minutes during his last meeting with Manchester United at the start of March.
During his game against United, the 22-year-old created a lot of chances and was constantly hounding Ten Hag’s team at every step of the game. The Red Devils won but Onana’s performance was commendable.
His finishing leaves a little to be desired but as a midfielder, the Belgian is complete. But, if Manchester United wishes to sign him they’ll need to create space in their middle line.
Onana is a defensive midfielder so he will probably be deployed in place of Either Casemiro or Kobbie Mainoo. However, that would hurt the growth of 18-year-old Mainoo. So, the team’s best option is to sell Casemiro and use that money to acquire the Everton midfielder.
