Jurgen Klopp congratulates Manchester United for their hard-fought FA Cup victory over Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side just didn’t have enough to beat Manchester United during their FA Cup clash last night. The German manager’s side played better football than the Red Devils for major stretches of the game.

However, his players were wasteful with their chances and failed to put United to rest in the second half. This cost them greatly as Erik ten Hag and his men came back to take home a 4-3 victory over the Reds.

Speaking to BBC after the game, Klopp congratulated the Dutchman and his team for advancing to the next round. He also mentioned that Ten Hag took a ‘lot of risks’ that paid off. Let’s have a look.

“We were nearly there in extra time and in the end we lose the game. I cannot ask the boys for more.”

“We had an intense season so far, you just have to count the games and today was hard. United took a lot of risks, I absolutely respect that.

Jurgen Klopp is right to say that Manchester United took a lot of risks. During extra time, Erik ten Hag chose to put Bruno Fernandes at center-back and Antony at LB. Both of these players are crucial to the United offence but were put in a defensive position.

Moreover, Harry Maguire was playing up front and making runs into Liverpool’s box. Fortunately, the Dutchman’s risk paid off in a big way when the Red Devils scored two in extra time to win the game.

A lot of people criticize Erik ten Hag by saying he doesn’t have tactics. This narrative against the Dutchman would’ve only gotten louder if his risks last night hadn’t paid off.
