Manchester United coach has shed light on a moment between Marcus Rashford and Kyle Walker ahead of the Blues’ second goal
Marcus Rashford was the player who struck early to give Manchester United a lead against Pep Guardiola and his men. A well-placed ball by Bruno Fernandes helped the Manchester-born star put a banger into the back of the net.
The Red Devils held the lead early but it all came crashing down as Phil Foden got it going and grabbed a brace to put his team up by two. Erling Haaland followed up to seal the game and gave a 3-1 victory to Man City.
Now, right before City’s second goal Kyle Walker and Marcus Rashford met in the Blues’ box and the 26-year-old forward was knocked down, but no penalty was given. Erik ten Hag has shared his thoughts on the moment. Here’s what he had to say.(h/t Fabrizio Romano)
“I’ve looked back and asked Rashy if there was contact…”.
“Maybe soft but there was contact”.
Erik Ten Hag seems to believe that his team should’ve been given a penalty. However, we’ve seen harder fouls being waved off in the past. Moreover, Rashford often goes down too easily so that decision was never going their way.
The 26-year-old even had a golden opportunity to score his second goal but failed to control the ball with his head and Ederson Moraes came out to collect it. The Dutchman has also blamed injuries for his team’s loss last night.
It seems like Erik ten Hag was watching a different game because even with injuries Manchester United is not a team that should only be recording three shots through 90 minutes of play.
