Injuries played a big part in Manchester United’s loss to Man City says Erik ten Hag
Manchester United and Erik ten Hag had no answer for Pep Guardiola and his Man City team last night. Despite their best efforts the Red Devils were unable to stop the onslaught of the Blues.
The game began with an eight-minute banger from Marcus Rashford. It was a brilliant goal for the Manchester-born star, unfortunately it was the only one the Red Devils scored at the Etihad Stadium last night.
It was a brace by Phil Foden and a late goal by Erling Haaland that crushed all hope for the Old Trafford crowd. Erik ten Hag still thinks his team played well and puts the blame on injuries. Let’s take a look at what he had to say. (h/t Fabrizio Romano)
“We can be close with everyone on board… we have many problems out due to injury”.
“We were already close in the final last year”.
The final that he is referring to is last year’s FA Cup final where Man City beat Manchester United 2-1 to lift the trophy. Now, the Dutchman says that he was close but the only goal his team scored was thanks to a first-half penalty that Bruno Fernandes took.
However, compared to their performance last night, the 2023 FA Cup final was a far better sight. The Red Devils were blown out of the water last night and Man City had the same amount of shots as United had possession.
Man City registered 27 shots while Erik ten Hag and his men only had 27% possession. A dominant showing by the blues.

Injuries have ruined a lot and the game might’ve been different if players like Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, and Rasmus Hojlund were available. However, you can’t blame your loss on injuries after not even registering five shots during the game.
