HOJLUND’S BRACE EXTENDS MAN UNITED’S UNBEATEN RUN IN 2024

Rasmus Hojlund’s brace was enough to ace Manchester United through against Luton Town on Matchday 25 of the Premier League. The Red Devils have been unbeaten this year, winning four League matches in a row, and sit 6th in the League Table, five points away from fourth place Aston Villa.

Just after the kickoff, Hojlund’s sixth and seventh goal in his last six appearances put Manchester United up 2-0, silencing the opposing crowd at Kenilworth Road. He capitalized on Amari’i Bell’s mistake at the backline within the first minute. Picking up on the loose ball, propelled further and around the goalkeeper, Thomas Kaminski, and fired into the net. The second goal came in the seventh minute of the game. Hojlund was in the right place to beautifully chest in Alejandro Garnacho’s volleyed effort into the far corner of the post, making it 2-0.

Luton came back into the game almost immediately. A deflected effort from Tahith Chong in the 14th minute fell into the direction of Morris in the right penalty area, with the striker heading past Andre Onana to make it 2-1. Eager to equalize, the home team pressed forward, launching multiple attacks against Manchester United’s defense. They took control of the game and dominated throughout the first half.

The Red Devils regained momentum in the second half after Scott McTominay got introduced into the game for Casimero. They pushed for a third goal on a few occasions. Bruno Fenandez’s effort got blocked by Albert Sambi Lokonga after he passed Kaminiski in the box. Rasmus Hojlund had his chance to get a hat trick from a swift counterattack, but Kaminski denied his effort. The Hatter’s goalkeeper also denied Marcus Rasford from outside the box. Bruno Fernandez again saw his effort from inside the box miss the far corner. Luton nearly equalized from a corner in the final action of the game. Ross Barkley’s looped header beat Andre Onana and hit the top of the crossbar.

Luton Town’s manager, Rob Edwards, insinuated that Manchester United’s midfielder, Caseiro, may have been fortunate to avoid a red card against the Hatters. The former Real Madrid player got booked after a foul on Amari’i Bell after the half-hour mark. Moments later, he was involved in another reckless tackle on Ross Backley, escaping a second yellow card despite protests from the Luton players. Edward expressed dissatisfaction with the Referee’s verdict at the end of the match.  Erik Ten Hag seemed to have taken no further chances and replaced Casemiro at the start of the second half.
