Mason Greenwood can still come back to Manchester United
Mason Greenwood and his future at Manchester United is a debate that fans across platforms have been involved in for quite a while now. Mason Greenwood has had his troubles away from the pitch a couple of years back when he was charged with assault, rape, and controlling behaviour back in 2022.
With the charges dropped in 2023, Mason Greenwood eyes a return to his old self. With a lot of criticism from the fans over his further involvement at Old Trafford, Manchester United chose to send him out on a season-long loan to Spain with Getafe.
He has been pulling his shooting boots yet again while in Spain. Mason Greenwood has scored seven goals and provided a further tally of five assists in all competitions this season for Getafe in 24 outings.
Can Manchester United bring back Mason Greenwood?
Manchester United tried to get Mason Greenwood back in the squad. The backlash from fans prevented his reintegration and forced Manchester United to change their decision.
With Sir Jim Ratcliffe taking charge of the Reds from Manchester following his takeover of 25% of the club from the Glazers Family and the sporting control at Old Trafford, he has left the door open for Mason Greenwood to make a potential return to Manchester United.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe sat down with the Manchester United media team to speak his mind to the Red Devils faithful. This is one of the topics he covered in the dialogue.
Ratcliffe speaking about Mason Greenwood situation on Wednesday said: “We will make a decision, correct.
“All I can do is talk about the principle of how we will approach decisions like that. Is he the right type of footballer, are we happy with if is he a good person or not?
“He’s a Manchester United footballer, so we are in charge of football.
“So the answer is ‘yeah, we have to make decisions. It’s quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that’s been made. He’s on-loan obviously, but he’s not the only one. We’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on, so we will do that.
“The process will be: understand the facts not the hype, and then try and come to fair decision on the basis of values, which is basically is he a good guy or not?
“Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well, would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it?”
