Altay Bayindir was one of the two goalkeepers that Manchester United brought to the Old Trafford last summer. These changes marked the end of David de Gea’s long-term stint with the Red Devils and the beginning of a new era of goalkeepers at Manchester United.

Andre Onana was signed for massive fees from Inter Milan, and there were clear indications that the Cameroonian professional is going to be the first choice for Erik ten Hag. Onana has been settling at United and his performances have improved with time.

With Onana, Manchester United brought in Altay Bayindir. The Turkish international was signed from Fenerbahce as a backup option.

Already on the out?

While the arrival of Altay Bayindir was always touted as one for the future, he may end up leaving Manchester United. His stay at Old Trafford can come to its conclusion just one season after he was signed, according to reports in Turkish Media by  Sports Digitale journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu relayed by GS Gazette.

Altay Bayindir has only played once for Manchester United. He played against Newport County in the FA Cup.

He is said to have grown tired having only played once. Bayindir is open to return to his homeland with a very controversial move on the line. Fenerbahce’s arch-rivals Galatasaray are said to be interested in employing his services.

This is what reporting journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu had to write about the potential move and Altay Bayindir’s situation at Manchester United:

“Before coming to Fenerbahçe, Altay Bayındır returned from Galatasaray. The upstairs neighbour of his family’s house in Bursa was working in the Galatasaray scout team and met Altay. The young goalkeeper said, ‘I’ll come to Galatasaray, but I won’t be Muslera’s understudy,’ but when this was not accepted, he accepted Ersun Yanal’s offer at Fenerbahçe.

“Now he is on the agenda again. Altay may come to Galatasaray, but he doesn’t want to be a substitute. He declared it like this.

“Manchester United’s legendary goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and goalkeeper Andre Onana, who is currently playing in front of Altay, work for the same management company. That’s why they are mobbing Altay. Altay is also very tired and frustrated by this situation.

“Altay is not the only player on Galatasaray’s list, Trabzonspor goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır and Doğan Alemdar, who is currently on loan at Rennes, are also on their radar.”

A brave desire in display

You could understand the want to play more by Altay Bayindir. He has been a very highly regarded goalkeeper and at that age, he would want to play more regularly, learn and take strides in his game.

Erik ten Hag chose to not play Altay Bayindir in the Carabao Cup as well. Understandably this could have caused a lot of upset to the 25-year-old.
