Former Sky Sports journo Richard Key says that Manchester United didn’t sell the in-form Scott McTominay when his valuation went to £30m
According to Manchester Evening News, former Sky Sports journalist Richard Key says that Manchester United failed to sell Scott McTominay when West Ham United were eager to sign him. The deal didn’t go through since both parties didn’t agree on the transfer fees. Look how that turned out to be!
Richard said:
“Moyes chased him all last summer, but couldn’t agree a fee with United. They wanted £40m for McTominay – Moyes offered £30m. Because he got frustrated, Moyes went shopping elsewhere – only for United to offer the player for £30m on deadline day.”
Continuing a streak in which each of his seven Premier League goals this season has had a significant impact for United, McTominay scored in the 86th minute to transform a tie into a crucial win against Aston Villa. Without his services, United would be in 12th place in the Premier League; he has helped Erik ten Hag‘s team gain 12 points, more than any other player in the competition.
As a result, McTominay has received a great deal of praise for his efforts this season with United. He has scored some crucial goals recently, including a brace in the last minutes of games against Brentford, two in the victory against Chelsea, and the game-winning goal at Villa on Sunday.
United would have been eight points behind Unai Emery’s squad if the two teams had drawn, giving them a significant deficit to close in the remaining fourteen games of the season. United now trail Villa by five points and are riding high. Taking fifth place might be sufficient to qualify for the Champions League, assuming the English teams in Europe perform as predicted.
For as long as United continue to struggle with ball control and match intensity, McTominay’s goals will have a disproportionately large impact.
However, McTominay’s significant role this season speaks volumes about United under Ten Hag. In an ideal world, Ten Hag wouldn’t put such a heavy emphasis on a single player. Ten Hag is a realistic manager, and he has found success by packing the box, but there are moments when it appears like McTominay and Hojlund share places.

It’s reasonable to say that Ten Hag and every United supporter throughout the globe is satisfied with McTominay’s play this year. We hope that we can win as many games as possible. The fact that we are only in the FA Cup and the Premier League gives us more time to focus on our goals and create a positive impact on the team.
