Gary Neville believes that Manchester United have found a ‘strong, powerful’ star to fill a defensive position
Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville believes that the Red Devils have found themselves a ‘strong and powerful’ star in Diogo Dalot. He believes that the Portuguese star has helped United nail down the right-back position.
If you look at his stats this season, you won’t find a lot to be impressed about. However, it is his work that doesn’t translate to the scoresheet that makes Dalot such an effective star.
He makes all the right passes and his skill on the ball is something to admire. Moreover, his excellent defensive abilities paired with his high work rate make the 24-year-old one of United’s best players.
Here’s what Gary Neville had to say about Dalot while speaking on Sky Sports
“If he can play in a confident and settled back-four, then he is something to work with. Is he the best in the world? No. But does he have the potential to be a top full-back? Yes”
We’ve seen what Dalot can do when playing with a confident and settled back-four as mentioned by Neville. The 24-year-old seemed to be in his element during the game against Aston Villa.
Erik ten Hag went with a defensive line full of veterans. Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire being in the centre helped Dalot run further up the field and have an impact on play in the final third.
What an impact the defender had. His beautiful cross aimed right at the noggin of Scott McTominay is the reason that Manchester United are now in a position to contest for a top-four Premier League spot.

Dalot is just 24 and is one of the most promising players on Ten Hag’s squad. Neville said that he is not the best in the world. However, with some time and care, Dalot can easily grow to be one of the best right-backs in football.
