Opinion: Manchester United should do all they can to sign in-demand winger

It’s fair to say that Manchester United have had their fair share of players over the years that haven’t quite hit the heights originally expected of them. More so in recent years, that’s becoming a common trend, with the likes of Antony and Mason Mount being good examples of players that arrived with hype from the club’s supporters, but have since failed to make a notable impact on a consistent basis at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag is seemingly coming under increasing pressure from some sections of the Old Trafford faithful, which isn’t at all surprising given that Manchester United are struggling to stay in touch with the top-four in the Premier League. There have been some off-field problems and delays in regards to potential new investment into the club, which seems to have hindered any transfer plans from the January transfer window, but it seems as though ten Hag could be trusted with a large budget to spend during the summer ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

Manchester United are currently sat sixth in the top-flight standings, and betting experts at have revealed that Erik ten Hag’s side are priced at 9/1 to finish in the top-four for the 2023/24 season, which could prove to be a tempting bet for some bettors. Below, you’ll find the rest of the betting odds for the top-four market on Sky Bet.

  • Tottenham Hotspur @ 4/5
  • Aston Villa @ 1/1
  • Manchester United @ 9/1
  • Newcastle United @ 16/1
  • Brighton & Hove Albion @ 22/1

One area that Manchester United should certainly look at strengthening is their wide attacking areas, with the likes of Antony and Marcus Rashford finding it tough to consistently perform to a high standard for the Red Devils. There are plenty of options that Manchester United could target in the summer with the size of their budget, but they should certainly consider buying a player that has proven experience in the top-flight of English football, as well as having not quite reached their peak as of yet.

One of those to match that description is Michael Olise, who is currently on the books with fellow Premier League side, Crystal Palace. Olise first caught the eye with Reading, as he scored seven goals and was on hand to provide 12 assists for his Royals team-mates in the 2020/21 season, as they narrowly missed out on a top-six finish in the Championship at the time. He made the move to Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021, and it’s safe to say that Olise hasn’t looked back ever since.

The French youth international has chipped in with six goals and three assists in his 11 appearances for Crystal Palace this season, and the Selhurst Park faithful will be eager to have him available for selection once again at the earliest of opportunities, as Olise has had his season disrupted with various injury problems. This comes after he was on hand to provide 11 assists last term for the Eagles, and it’s clear to see he’s a player with a bright future ahead of him, especially as he’s shown he’s got more than enough quality to perform to a high standard in the Premier League, and it’s easy to forget that Olise is still only 22-years-old.

He’s a player with a bright future ahead of him if he can stay free from injury, and Manchester United should be doing all they can to strike a deal with him in the near future, especially considering that the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City are likely to be in the market to land his signature.
