Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez reassures the fans that he will return soon from his latest injury setback
Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez courageously sent a positive message to the club’s fans amid another injury setback. Martinez suffered a knee injury during the 3-0 win against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
United won their third game in a row to build much-needed momentum, attempting to finish the season strongly. The Red Devils suffered an injury crisis throughout the current season with many players returning in January.
They suffered an early exit from the Champions League and the Carabao Cup while losing nine Premier League games. United are currently sixth in the Premier League, eight points behind fourth-place Aston Villa with expectation to close the gap.
United’s defence department suffered the most injuries with Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans missing many games. The Red Devils’ manager Erik ten Hag opted for the Varane and Martinez pairing last season. The pair helped United win the Carabao Cup and finish third to qualify for the Champions League.
However, this season the defensive fragility played a big factor in United’s miserable first half of the season. Martinez’s foot injury sidelined him for 22 games, and now he faces an estimated absence of at least eight weeks.
Reliable Journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t X) posted the message from Lisandro Martinez, addressing the United fanbase. He said:
“I’ll be soon be back out there and we will fight together. Always united!”
Despite the immense quality, Martinez’s recurring injury has left many wondering whether he should be a first-choice at the club. The 26-year-old is currently in the peak year of his career, but the nagging injuries are multiplying.
Romano previously reported that United are planning to reinforce the defence during the upcoming summer transfer window. The Red Devils want to secure the defence and eliminate the excuse of an injury crisis for the next season.
