Manchester United star got sent off twice en route to an exit from AFCON
Manchester United players have not had a good time at AFCON this year. First, there was Andre Onana with Cameroon. The 26-year-old raced against time to be present in the squad but was omitted for the first game.
After conceding three in the only game where he got to make a start, Onana was once again omitted from the squad as Cameroon were eventually knocked out of the tournament.
Now comes Sofyan Amarabat, who has been unimpressive for both Morroco and Manchester United. The 27-year-old was hilariously sent off twice during his team’s game against South Africa.
For his initial challenge, the Morrocan defensive midfielder was shown a second yellow which led to him being thrown out. However, the referees were keen on checking VAR to correctly determine whether Amrabat was in the wrong or not.
As bizarre as it may sound, once the referees checked the cameras, the Morrocan’s second yellow was instantly converted to a direct red card, which led to him being thrown out once again.
Morroco who were once favourites to lift the Cup were then knocked out at the hands of South Africa. Amrabat will soon return to Manchester United to take his place in the squad.
Amrabat will likely not be getting a ton of chances upon his return to Old Trafford. All the hype surrounding his arrival at the club has died down thanks to his lacklustre performances on the pitch.

Now that the team has Casemiro back along with Kobbie Mainoo, it is very hard to imagine that Sofyan Amrabat will be getting a ton of playing time under Erik ten Hag.
