Manchester United might have to battle Liverpool as both teams want to sign the former Real Madrid winger
As reported by Football Insider, both Manchester United and Liverpool are in the running to sign former Real Madrid winger, Takefusa Kubo. The 22-year-old Asian star is currently playing for Real Sociedad.
The Japanese national was once a Real Madrid flop. However, his recent form and development have caught the eyes of many as he is now wanted by several prominent clubs. Moreover, Kubo has a release clause £51m which seems very affordable to the Premier League giants.
Over 25 appearances this season, the 22-year-old has recorded six goals and four assists for the La Liga side. His contributions are eerily similar to those of Mason Greenwood who is currently on loan at Getafe.
It seems like Manchester United believe Kubo to be some kind of replacement for Mason Greenwood. It was earlier believed that the club outcast would make a return to the squad during the summer.
However, the sudden interest from clubs around the world could entice the Red Devils into selling Greenwood. This is where Kubo comes in, on one hand, the team will be making pure profit by selling an academy graduate and on the other, they will be spending that money to bring in Kubo.
So in a nutshell, the Red Devils will be able to sell an extraordinary talent and bring another one in all at the same time. Moreover, they won’t even have to face any backlash like they would have if Greenwood had returned to Old Trafford.
