As reported by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United were relentlessly pursuing two targets from Benfica in a deal that could come up to £173m. However, the Red Devils might have to face disappointment once more.

Jorge Mendes who is a Portuguese agent has said that Joao Neves and Antonio Silva will not be going anywhere this season, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. These young stars will be staying put at Benfica for the time being.

Mendes has also stated that there were proposals made for both players, however, only Rui Costa will decide at the end of the season.

Manchester United will likely revisit these young stars during the summer. 19-year-old Neves has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in Liga Portugal.

On the other hand, 20-year-old Antonio Silva is also being hailed as one of the best defenders in Portugal at the moment. The Red Devils who have been exceptionally poor on defence can use the services of these players.
