Manchester United and Benfica have reached a deal for 20-year-old star confirms Fabrizio Romano
As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have agreed to send 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez to Benfica. It will be a loan deal that will last till the end of the season.
Benfica have a €6m buy option. Moreover, the deal will become permanent if the Spanish national starts in 50% of his games. The Red Devils have also included a buy-back clause along with matching rights and a sell-on clause.
This is a very smart move for the Old Trafford squad who have been relentlessly trying to balance their books amidst FFP concerns. However, the buy option seems a little low for such a talent.
Alvaro Fernandez has not had any opportunities to display his talent to the Manchester United fans. But he has been impressive for Granada CF where he was previously playing on loan.
The 20-year-old has made 47 appearances for the U-21 team and has been a positive for them. The Red Devils are probably looking to get some experience under his belt before they give him a chance to show off in the Premier League.
However, that may never come to pass because of his cheap buy option. But, the existence of a buy-back clause ensures that he will be brought back to Old Trafford if the team needs his services.
