Romano explains why Manchester United haven’t triggered the extension clause for Raphael Varane
Manchester United and Raphael Varane made headlines early in January when it was revealed that the club had opted against extending the player by one additional year. The Frenchman is perhaps the best defender that Ten Hag has so this came as a shock.
The Red Devils’ decision meant that Varane who will now be out of contract during the summer is free to negotiate with other teams. He has already been linked with several clubs including his former team Real Madrid.
Romano while giving an exclusive story to GIVEMESPORT, has revealed the real intention behind Manchester United’s decision. He says that the team is working on a new contract with the player.
Here’s what Romano had to say about the whole situation. (h/t GIVEMESPORT)
“They want to change the situation regarding Varane’s salary as it’s considered too expensive. So, it’s not to disrespect the player.”
As explained by Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have not closed the door on Raphael Varane. They simply wish to negotiate a new contract with the player with reduced wages. This would help out their salary structure.
Varane has been phenomenal for the team every time that he has played. The only thing that has held the Frenchman back during his time at Old Trafford is his health.
Fans will be happy to learn that the team does not intend on letting go of the Frenchman at this moment. A new contract should be signed within the coming days.
