Pep Guardiola has just said that Manchester United helped rivals Manchester City win the treble
Pep Guardiola says Manchester City’s win over Manchester United during last year’s FA Cup final helped them get motivated for the Champions League final. This is what ultimately led them to the treble.
The Spanish manager has completely changed the face of the Blues’ organization. The team has won three Premier League titles in a row and five in total under Guardiola’s regime.
Moreover, they have also won four Carabao Cups, two FA Cups and One Champions League trophy. All of this en route to the club’s first-ever treble last year.
Guardiola explained to Manchester Evening News, how the win over Manchester United last year gave them a big boost for the Champions League final.
Let’s hear what he had to say. (h\t Manchester Evening News)
“Against United, it was a little bit more special, we have to admit. For our fans maybe, more special.”
We don’t know about Pep, but it sure was quite a sight to see his city side completely dismantle the Red Devils last year. Even if they hadn’t won, their excellent second-half performance would have been motivating enough for a good Champions League game.
Guardiola has completely changed the landscape of Manchester City. They have gone from being the other Manchester football club to being the better Manchester football club. The Blues can’t match the Red Devils’ history, but Manchester United can’t match their rivals on the field.
