Manchester United’s Andre Onana in AFCON talks with Cameroon as he looks to please help both parties

Andre Onana is trying to come up with a solution that pleases both Manchester United and Cameroon

Well. Andre Onana, how many more twists is he going to have in his Manchester United career? There is a feeling that the Cameroon call-up has come at the wrong time for him.

Since his £47.2m move to the Red Devils from Inter Milan in the summer, it is fair to say that the former Ajax shot-stopper has struggled to adapt to the Premier League. He seems to be getting better with every passing game though.

It must be remembered that Onana was one of the best goalkeepers in the Champions League last season. The 27-year-old came with huge expectations when he came to United. Replacing a club legend like David de Gea was never going to be easy.

Andre Onana‘s best game in a United shirt came against Liverpool. He made a stupendous eight saves to make sure Jurgen Klopp’s men don’t score. Incidentally, he also completed the most passes (30) of any Red Devils player on the night (Stats: BBC).

As expected, Onana had been selected in the Cameroon squad for the AFCON which means that he might miss much of January and a part of February for Manchester United. However, the talented goalkeeper is trying to arrive at an amicable situation.

Andre Onana is desperate to impress

According to the ESPN, Onana is trying to negotiate to try and join Cameroon on a later date. The African nation are set to hold a warm-up camp in Saudi Arabia, where they will play a friendly against Zambia on Jan. 9.

The former Inter Milan goalie though wants to make himself available to Manchester United for their FA Cup third-round tie against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Jan. 8. He could then linkup with his national team ahead of their campaign opener against Guinea on Jan. 15.

We understand Onana is keen to nail his spot down at Manchester United. At the back of his mind, he will know that he has to impress much more than he has so far. However, it won’t affect us much for the clash against Wigan Athletic.

More Manchester United News-

Maybe, does the 27-year-old wonder at the back of his mind if Erik ten Hag will still be Manchester United’s manager when he comes back from the AFCON? We will never know. All parties though will look to reach an amicable conclusion as soon as possible.
