Gary Lineker taunted Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after another humiliating loss at Old Trafford against Bournemouth
BBC Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker mocked Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after another humiliating home loss. United lost 3-0 to Bournemouth in the Premier League game at Old Trafford on Saturday, continuing their inconsistent form.
The Red Devils dominated 70% of the possession but only managed to muster three shots on target during the game. The Cherries picked United’s defence apart through some exquisite counter-attacking football as Ten Hag’s men left too much space open.
Ten Hag won Premier League Manager of the Month on Friday after his team enjoyed positive results in November. Most of the victories in the Premier League came in unconvincing fashion and generally against a struggling opposition.
Nevertheless, United fans expected a better result against Bournemouth considering the tough fixtures that lie ahead this month. The Red Devils are facing Bayern Munich in the Champions League next and then travel to Anfield to face Liverpool.
United have lost 11 matches in all competitions this season, showing vulnerabilities in all areas of the pitch. The Red Devils are also on the verge of crashing out of the Champions League competition.
United need to beat Bayern side at Old Trafford, hoping the FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray game ends in a stalemate. Any other result leads to an elimination from the competition before even reaching the knockout stages.
Writing on his social platform X, Lineker sarcastically questioned the time Ten Hag has left to redeem his current predicament. He wrote:
“Has anyone ever won manager of the month and lost their job in the same weekend?”
Ten Hag has received criticism for some dubious decision-making this season as the pressure grows further. The Dutchman opted to play Luke Shaw as a make-shift centre-back despite having Raphael Varane available as a natural option.
Furthermore, the 53-year-old chose to start Anthony Martial over Rasmus Hojlund against Bournemouth despite Martial’s terrible form. Ten Hag has used new tactical formations and approaches to find the right cohesion for his squad.

However, many players have failed to make a positive impact in the formation and act cohesively alongside their teammates. We think that players need to take accountability for the current predicament as well. United fans can tolerate bad performance but they will never tolerate a lack of passion and desire. Neither Ten Hag nor any manager in the world can teach that to the players.
