Manchester United target Joao Palhinha of Fulham to prevent the crisis in midfield
TeamTalk (h/t The Express) reports that Manchester United is considering Fulham’s Joao Palhinha as a potential solution to their midfield woes, following a disappointing performance against Bournemouth.
Bayern Munich nearly secured Palhinha’s transfer this past summer, but the deal fell through at the last moment. Now, it seems Bayern might re-enter the fray for his signature, despite their previous failure to sign him.
Palhinha, who prefers playing in the Premier League, has been recognized as one of the best in his position. Since his transfer from Sporting Lisbon to Fulham in the summer of 2022 for £18 million, the 28-year-old has displayed impressive consistency. Fulham is expected to make a significant profit should they decide to sell him.
In September, Fulham secured Palhinha’s future by extending his contract until 2028, with an option for an additional year, reflecting the high demand for their key player.
Manchester United could greatly benefit from a defensive midfielder like Palhinha, especially considering Casemiro’s lackluster performances this season. The Brazilian international has not been at his best, and Palhinha could offer a substantial improvement.
A move to United could be advantageous for both parties. Palhinha’s experience in the English league might give United an edge in negotiations. Additionally, his potential partnership with fellow Portuguese player and United captain Bruno Fernandes could be promising. Currently, Scott McTominay is the only midfielder consistently striving for positive results at United.
Mason Mount, another recent signing, has also not been significantly involved. The underperformance of many United midfielders this season positions the club as a suitable destination for Palhinha.
